My bees were not over active in August and it looks as if the ones in my obs hive got a bit hungry...
but now over the last few days they cant seem to work fast enough.

Wow! They are packing it in aren't they? Any clues as to what they've found?

That deep yellow pollen is Ivy. It is has just come out here and is covered in bees, hoverflies and even a beautiful hornet.

My bees are extremely busy too. It's a beautiful sunny day here too so they appear to be making the most of it. The ivy is out plus there's a couple of shrubs in flower nearby (haven't a clue what they are)

I know few people have been saying it's about to pop. Must have flowered with a vengeance in this case! It's not flowering here yet though, well, at least on the path to school anyhow.

Very first signs of the buds opening on the ivy in my garden last night ... According to my records just one day earlier than last year ! Lots of florets on there so I'm hopeful that the lazy little beggars in hives 2 & 3will get cracking or hive no 1 is going to be feeding them ... Seemed to be very busy this morning so I'm hopeful ...

Lots of activity outside most hives this morning at 6.45 and 11 degrees, busiest they have been for a couple of weeks, the smell of Ivy was thick in the air so hopefully they will pack it in the supers for the next couple of weeks, allow me to relieve them of it and then start winter feeding.

pollen is pale yellow , heather is just going over and the ivy hasnt started ... I'll have to ask the bee keeper to kickstart her microscope.

Bees going mad on japanese knotweed here
Absolutely buzzin ......

The Ivy seems to have started slowly here , over the last week a few flowers have opened.....`but yesterday ,, bang 70% flowers open....Go Girls......

We also have 5 colonies on the side of a field of Mustard..... looks like a weeks worth of flowers to come, hoping the weather holds.....

I had a wander down the local footpath and the pods have opened the reveal the yellow pollen. All sorts of insects on it including a strange one the looked like a flying earwig with a yellow spot on it. Slight smell of Ivy nectar drifting from the hives too.

A good Ivy flow on here at the moment, we had to put more boxes on as we want to harvest some to sell on as cooking honey, we have two site of ten stocks on each that produce huge quantities of it so worth doing
