I have no idea what it is, found it in my sons garden when we went out to oz,its a good size 63mm long.

Very good picture MODNOD. Looks like a cicada I think.

Eyes not dissimilar in configuration to those of a honey bee with the clump of three oceli on the top.

Well i just had to look it up and you are correct it is a greengrocer cicada.
