Wouldn't it be great to have someone here who is in charge and can give a bit of day to day guidance... a bit like the BBKA article that covers the coming month..

It shouldn't be too difficult for us to all agree on our favorite contributor to post their daily activities and thoughts on what they are observing. What to lookout for or what they are wary of...

My suggestions would be jenkinsbrynmair , ericahaflbee, Enrico or possibly maddydog.

Good idea?

Doesn't the "What I Did In The Apiary Today" thread pretty much do that? I find it a very useful thread for the general state of play for the week.

Lol you expect beekeepers to agree. That's funny.

The workshop and apiary threads cover most things anything else just ask.

Heavens. No point in asking me. Sometimes I don't do anything in the apiary for ages and when I do it's often wrong. What did you do in the apiary has it covered :)

Take anything you read with a pinch of salt. I could have posted I did a shook swarm today [emoji85]

At the important times of year (particularly spring), the localisation can make all the difference.
Some of my hives are in a very slightly elevated position and the forage is 3 weeks later than what my hives are on closer to sea level.
For me, it is handy, as the season is staggered across my hives.

Someone in Yorkshire listening to advice from someone in Surrey could have a negative impact on their hives.

Also, the forum has many voices, and different opinions. It is not dictated by the few clutching the holy handbook. This is what makes THIS forum so valuable

It is better to learn the theory and rule of thumb, rather than learning by dictation. Listen to the advice and different points of view, try to understand why it was said, and follow your own path in what makes sense to you.
'why' is as important as 'how'

Precisely.

The OP needs a mentor.

PH

Exactly.

Conditions here are 3 weeks behind 30 miles away due to our altitude and valley..
So what is appropriate for Manchester at any time may be wrong here.
(Let alone balmy Basildon or frozen Fife:)

One other thing ... don't ever be influenced by a member's Post Count - a high Post Count does not indicate that a person is experienced, or knowledgeable, or wise, or thoughtful ... or anything similar which can be relied upon. Likewise - a low Post Count doesn't indicate the opposite.

It would be a much better guide if this forum had a Reputation Count instead. I think it's been suggested before - maybe I could take this opportunity to suggest it again ?

These are prone to manipulation too LJ.
I've seen people get their friends (or even create multiple accounts and do it themselves) "vote" to inflate /deflate someones "reputation".

It's difficult to manage and there are so many different ways and styles in beekeeping that what some people consider good advice others would consider anathema. I think the forum works well as it is ... a search of the archives (which are now huge) inevitably provides a wide spectrum of advice and ideas on virtually any issue in beekeeping. We keep up to date with current affairs in beekeeping and new thinking - there are innovators on here with radical ideas and long established traditional beekeepers and a mix of those in between. I don't think a single point of reference in beekeeping is anything like a good idea ... take what you can, from where you can, consider, evaluate, think, think again and then do what you feel is best for YOU.

If I had to vote for my number one gardener that would be Month Don.. isn't there a beekeeper equivalent to Monty?

If you had said Gurtrude Geekel ... I would have said that german lady with the funny Sun hives... or even the Welsh lass with her Flow's hive contraptions:icon_204-2:

What fun!

You can say that again. My post count merely indicates I have been here for a few years, I have far too much free time on my hands and since discovering modern phones are little computers I am glued to mine.
Our little island has a myriad of microclimates. Folk in the south have supers on. In the north bees are barely awake.
