I have used it a few time in reality and it is NOT anything I would suggest for anyone who has a home apiary. The bees do not enjoy it and object very strongly.

I've read about them, and it seems to do the opposite of what the bees want to do, ie it leaves the flying bees to raise a queen, while the non-flying bees become the 'swarm'. Taking Oliver Field's idea (in Honey by the Ton) that you should 'push the bees in the direction they want to go', I'm not surprised they object.
