Solid frame of pollen

Is this normal? The indoor hive has two frames of nothing but pollen. They're on a double brood.

If they are getting pollen that is a good thing. As long as you can see Brood In All Stages (BIAS) then I would not be worried.

I find they fill the first frame from the entrance with pollen, and then brood starts.

IT is valuable stuff. In some of my hives there are 5-7 full frames pollen. But nucs have not at all.
One frame of brood consumes one frame of pollen.
 
Cool, it's the outside frames they seem to be using. It's just been a change in pattern from what they were doing earlier in the year.

I don't know where they're getting it from - some's balsam but the other colours I'm not so sure. I'm collecting slides but won't look at them yet - they're my winter store so I have something to do and blog about when I can't open the hive.
