Just got Rain down this way - Very Gay....

I have heard that if England has snow rain, no one go to work or to school.
Now I understand that happines.

.

No - what happens is - anywhere in England that doesn't normally expect snow grinds to a halt because no-one knows how to drive in it and the local councils aren't geared up to clear it. People drive to fast or too slow, crash or block the roads. A flurry of snow will send schoools into panic mode and they close because the busses taking the children home will stop running.

I, who live in a lowland area (and therefore don't expect snow) have already changed my tyres to winters (no-one else does and the tyre place have to order them specially for me) and I have snow chains and a shovel carried with me. I always get to work. . . . but then I'm self employed and it's not in my best interests to have a day off

The reason for my excitement is because I love the snow (see my avatar).

But alas it's already gone and it's now wet and miserable (again) and 6 degrees

We have got snow during 2 days as much as during whole normal winter.
Low pressure stays above us and more is coming.

The affect of this low pressure reaches to Mediterrenian.

Do you do anything about your beehives if the snow covers their entrances Finman?

My hives are 150 km away from me and I do nothing.
Hives have finger size upper entrance and they get air from that.
It is same in spring too.

Air moves through snow and rise out from upper entrance.
Mostly bottoms have extra holes too in back part of bottom board.

Later I put wind / snow cover over the hives. It is geo-textile.

When snow stucks the landin board

It melts a little bit against hive wall. Warm air comes from hive and makes a fresh air cavity against the entrance.

In practice snow does not block totally the air movement to the hive.

hey enough of your summer photos
lets see some real winter weather

In the UK, LOL, pandering here aye?

When it snows cover the entrance, with snow, as bees WILL fly and get disorientated. They land on the snow and chill to death.
