greetings from sunny Spain,
The adult swallows nesting in our terrace were making a bit of a din this afternoon and when I went to investigate there was a snake in the nest helping itself to one of the chicks,
I managed to get the snake down with a barbeque fork and released it in the garden,
bit sad for the swallows but we all have to eat.

That will be the Montpellier Snake then ? Can grow to 2m and quite common throughout Spain ... will take birds and small mammals ... We saw a big one when we were on holiday in Spain a few years ago and visiting a Vineyard in the hills outside Alhambra. We told the Vineyard owner .. he knew about it - said it keeps the mice and rats down but otherwise mostly harmless !! Frightened us to death ... nearly 6 foot long !!!
