Yes, I used to use corks but usually lost them; easier to pull a small swatch of grass, fold it over and stuff the spout with the folded edge first.

All these spout tricks are OK until it falls over in the back of the car and starts a conflammation. Easy answer is to use an ammo tin, which has silicone seals to the lid.

Ahh ... competition... but not really - hand turned hardwood stoppers don't burn your fingers !

I find that corks from decent malt whisky bottles fit a treat, and I do seem to have an endless supply of them

In the store you can see that the price of a natural cork is 4 times the price of an agglomerate cork. Therefore, natural corks are only reserved for wines that will spend time in the bottle (more than a year).
