Slugs

What's the story with slugs lately?

Loads of them under hive and on landing board. Also quite a few on inspection tray. Is it a weather thing? Are they attracted to the pollen? Never seen as many around hive before.

Also, would it be ok to sprinkle a few slug pellets underneath the hive?

If you are going to use slug pellets, use ferric oxide ones. The slugs crawl away and die underground thus preventing the birds/frogs etc eating poisoned carcasses.

I don't bother - except round choice plants. The field next door has millions of them (and snails).

No harm done to hives as far as I can see.

Put a load of Woodash round the legs. Slugs won't cross it, but top up after rain, works well on plants too.

Two hives over wintered with up to twenty leopard slugs in each hive. A big slimy mess on about four frames in each hive. Cleansed them all out then sprinkled road salt around the base of each hive . Kills the weeds and not another slug seen since.

Tits are buetifull don't get them involved! I mean the bird variety of course
Copper tape round the legs of your hive or even round the floor. Works for me

I will not go through this Thread to try and guess who the members are, but we need more civility on this Forum, otherwise the increase of knowledge will not occur, which is the reason why I am here.

However . . . I am sure some of us are aware of proxy's, etc. and the ease that one could re-join this group . . . but the message needs to be sent.

But there has been references (on other Threads) to obscene Private Messages being sent to members, these should be taken into consideration as I suspect some members may be being baited.
