Definitely a what to buy your husband for Christmas who has everything item, I think I'll still get socks

There's different things at play.
Urban/suburban beekeeping -- simple enough with a large garden, tall hedges, gentle bees, nice neighbours and a bit of luck!
Then Balcony beekeeping - the lack of space and the forced proximity of bees and people makes it a bit more tricky ...
... and then there's the daft idea of an observation hive actually in your lounge, never mind the daftnesses of the hive itself.

Thats a rather sweeping statement. Have you ever kept bees in a small garden that does not have high fences or hedges, or know anything about observation hives in a a lounge?

and why is an obs hive daft?
Watching mine I know when the queen is laying. I can estimate very accurately when they are thinking about swarming. Watch them building comb, and repairing a piece of damaged comb. Learning about clustering, which is basically just the bees moving away from the cold, no conformity or magic or must do thing that some people think it is.
