I know a lot of folk use Uni Posco pens to mark their Queens. Have any of you had problems with the white pens this year? Mine was bought new in May and I have had to remark 'several' queens as the mark was more grey than white - probably the thorax colour showing through and in a couple of instances the bees groomed off the mark on newly introduced queens.

The pen has been well shaken before each use and the paint has been allowed to dry on the queens before they have been released back into the colonies. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

No, on the contrary, I have at least one all-white queen, with black sticky-out bits. :)

ours seemed to work well, the pen that is. Nearly squashing HM with the Queen cage was my fault :)

Hi GB - queen cages are the work of the devil! I was shown how to run fingers up behind the Q and deftly lift her by the wings. It has worked every time for me, so far ;)

Let's not have the queen cages argument again! Some of us manage to use them without any problems!

Strewth - who's arguing?
The numbered glued on discs last the longest :)
I have a 3 year old queen thus marked and disc is as bright and number as crisp as when first applied .

Ok. Tho I must say that I went off Crowns of Th*rns (just in case :)) the day I popped one in my pocket without the polystyrene protector. Then bent down to pick up my hive tool....

The mark from the beekeeping type pens always wears off pretty quickly. I use white nail varnish as it lasts for the Qs lifetime.

Water based tipex. Even comes with a felt pad rather than a brush. Lasts at least two years on my queens. No problems.
