Went through them all in a short space of time (starting with the T*****s wrong gauge plastic ones) and the framed wire are infinitely preferable. Much kinder to bees and beekeeper, and don't get stuck to things in the same way, and lift without 'pinging' which the bees hate.

I use both, plastic and metal, to stop the 'pinging' lift the excluder all the way around and for the last bit (that would ping) just give a little twist to the excluder, no pinging. Being gentle is the best in what every you do with bees.

I have all 3 types and although I thought I would change to the frame wired last year I found that some colonies liked to build too much brace comb on these.

I think different colonies seem to prefer different types!

Well I will try again this year and see how the different types fair.

I have always used plastic ones. If I am demonstrating them to a new bee keeper I liked it to opening a can of sardines. It seems to work for me!

Mike.

Thanks Mike, always ahead of the game
