Hi everyone,

I'm a singing beek and regularly nibble the propolis from my hives to keep my voice in tip top shape.

However, a nurse who is also a member of the chorus I sing with has sent out a voice health sheet in which she quotes that propolis shouldn't be used with anticoagulants (warfarin and the like):

Propolis(Herbal) made from bee resin, so not recommended if you’re allergic to bees/bee products/stings, or if you are taking anticoagulants such as Warfarin, Rivaroxaban, Dalteparin or Enoxaparin.

I can't find many references to this apart from this

http://www.honeybee-propolis.com/bee-propolis-and-royal-jelly-interaction-with-anticoagulants/

Can anyone verify this please?

Thanks.

I found this (good source) "A case study reported that bee pollen may elevate the international normalized ratio (INR) above the therapeutic range in patients taking warfarin " http://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/herb/propolis

The link doesn't follow but this is the paper. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21098375

If you are REGULARLY nibbling, then it should show up in your INR and Warfarin titration, I would have thought, if that's the issue. Other tabs I don't know.

Thank you for that.

I don't take anticoagulants but I'd never heard that before and wondered if she was making it up :)
