I have heard people discuss using large plastic bags to store supers and keep out moth (I know they prefer brood), spiders, etc.

Now I am sure bin liners would accommodate a super, but they are fragile and you can't see into them.

Does anyone have any recommendations or should I not bother using them at all?

Now, before I get the recommendations, I should add that I do not have access to large outbuildings, sheds, etc, so some will be stored in a garden shed and sme may have to be stored out on pallets.

As ever, my thanks for any input.

psafloyd,

For storage in a pest-free environment (my lock-up garage, for example) I use the plastic sleeves from our local dry cleaners. these are transparent on one side and a full super slides snugly inside the sleeve, with the extra length at either end giving a useful flap to tape up.

Of course, you may need a heavier-duty solution if rodents, or even ants, are present.

I just use the supers stacked with a ply panel covering top and bottom stored in a corner of the workshop. Empty boxes or boxes with frames and no foundation are stored out side on a sealed floor with a spare roof fitted. Over winter they are cleaned steralised, repaired and painted ready for reuse.

Mine are stacked in a shed with top and bottom covered. Only time I use a bag is when I am sterilising the boxes using sulpher strips - I think I salvaged it when a new mattress was delivered.

I can buy strong clear bags from local animal stores outlet (Bodle Bros) they are £1 each and hold 5 supers. http://www.bodlebros.co.uk/
If you have difficulty getting- pm me and I will get them and send to you just bags and postage.

Thanks for the help, everyone. Don't like the cling film idea as it can only be used once and I wouldn't sleep over the waste, but I can see the attraction for it.

I use black bin bags and dispose of them once used.

Why "dispose" of them? When the super(s) are put back into service I use the bin liner(s) in the bin:) Some are a bit sticky but a close fitting lid prevents robbing. However I'm a tight s*d:smilielol5:

I use tougher garden waste bags if available, and plain old black bin liners if not No problems so far though I imagine the budget ones may be a bit thin.

Tried cling film once and couldn't get on with it, far too fiddly for my liking.
