Thought I’d have one thread for all the plant ID requests



Can I start off with this one?
Leaves are about 2.5 feet tall. No signs of a flower yet. Just popped up in the garden

It could be Elfdock

No. Just done that. Leaves are downy on the underside.

Pity cos I would have said horseradish too! A real thug to get rid of once established!

My parents grew lots. It was one of my jobs as a youngster to grate the stuff to make sauce with grated cooked beetroot. I use to do it outside with tears streaming down my face.

I have dug ours up completely three times. But no! It is still there! By the way, totally off topic why is the bar at the top of my posts greyed out so I can't use any of the things on it?

Inula helenium. Not horseradish

Like Erick the Half said, look at the under side of Inula.

And compare to horse radish.

If it is elf dock, it start to flower in 2nd year if I recall right. I leave some at our property and around beehives. It is dear to me.. Very healthy herb also. But for now I just let it grow.. Somehow, taking its root I would feel sad.. When necessity occur I will do..

I have never heard of this plant but a search reveals that it has medicinal uses and mythology attached to it
“ It is said that elecampane grew where Helen's tears fell across the plains, as she was torn away from her home in Sparta.”
I shall certainly look after it.

It looks like a type of Germander.
