That looks very neat - how have you fixed the trim? Is it glued? What sort have you used? I've used thinner acrylic in the past(cos I'm cheap and have no free source) so no use as a feeder board, and drilled and screwed through the trim and acrylic onto a eke at the other side. Early versions have separated on sticky hives which is a pain in the middle of an inspection, later versions are ok (longer screws)
I paint the edge of the trim/eke as well as I am using pine (did I say I'm cheap) to protect it against the elements a bit.
Would love to see your 1mm eke :)
I drilled pilot holes and fired blunt screws in.. no glue needed or used..i will rig the 1mm eke up when i get two minuets spare..ha ..;)

For debate:
Advantage of top space is that sheet can be placed directly on box without a spacer frame... although the polly hives I have use a sheet of correx in contact with the frames ( bottom spaced)

Paynes polly nucs come with a thin sheet of clear plastic ( Made by BAYER !!) but are top spaced?????

Where do you find free 18"x 18" clear plastic sheets ??????

I buy 460*460 sheets on the net. Use them fflat on my top bee space nationals. I have tried 3mm but prefer 4 or 5. For the 3 I use a couple of bits of old bottom bar or even half clothes pegs as support

They have a 30mm hole drilled in them. I use a slow drill speed. This just takes a thrones English feeder or rapid feeder with no risk of the base of the cone filling with brace comb.

On top of tht is celotex with a cut out as above for a plastic food container of fondant.

Redundant shower screens from the local amenity recylcing centre ... they are not recyclable so as long as you are happy to remove the aluminium frames they let you have the acrylic bits .. or at least mine do ! Makes a change from having to pay £5 a bag to dump rubble and the like ...

Put an add in the wanted section of freecyle .. that works as well.

Great idea! Like it.

Thx

Whats the best way to clean a Perspex CB?

Any answers for Codford (and me) from the hive mind? Several of mine are awaiting attention with a fair bit of wax stuck to them.

When cold, scrape off most of the wax and propolis, and then wash in water with soda crystals added to it. Cold water is probably better to allow you to scrape off some more stubborn wax and propolis. I just accept I won't get it sparkling clean again.

thanks - will wait for a cold day and have a go!

Curley, why wait for a cold day? (Probably no waiting - it’s cold up here where I am.)

When I said ‘When cold ...’, I just meant not still warm and sticky as a result of hive temperature, or from having been dumped in hot water. The wax and propolis will harden on any day once removed from the hive.

A blunt Stanley knife blade works very well. Use one of the 'handles' that are designed to hold the blade for scraping the paint off windows.

Blunt ... because if you use a brand new blade it tends to dig into the perspex.

These are much more efficient ways of cleaning off wax and propolis than a hive tool. If you use the latter, remember that any dings or nicks in the blade are likely to scratch the perspex.

I butchered my Abelo crown board earlier in the season. Not as tidy lookings as yours Millet but it does the job. Still have the slabs of insulation to set on top of the perspex.

Pictures as below but cant find any of the complete item.
