I use a natural aerosol air freshener (per ITLD). Much easier. Set up a three frame nuc this pm with frames from two different hives - one squirt and that's it..

Natural air freshener...there is nothing natural about it. I don't use it in my house and wouldn't want to spray it directly on the poor girls.

Nothing natural about OA, thymol, or hives.:hairpull:
Or queen rearing, AI, artificial swarms or IPM...

Or a long list of beekeeping practises. Including newspaper. Or matchsticks..

Or smoking...

its probably more user friendly than the car you drive or the bus you catch or the coal or gas you burn to keep you warm. Saying that whats the carbon foot print of a paper mill and a printing press, i wonder if they use air freshener in their toilets. Organic is a nice concept in the realms of sifi.

I don't preach about organic, I certainly don't do organic beekeeping. We (the other half) make a lot of natural cleaning products for the house and creams. For me natural and air fresheners don't go together. Has anyone tried essential oils on top frames?

I thought organic beekeepers don't wear gloves or is that only a myth.

I don't claim to be organic but don't wear gloves. The cost in pain is not huge and my tolerance to bee venom is (now) high. Just as well.

As far as leather gloves are concerned, I understand the tanning process uses some nasty chemicals..

Probably especially if made in countries with little care of the environment. I use marigold or nitrile. ..nothing environmentally friendly either but I think nowadays it's almost impossible. I tried without gloves twice and had the most painful sting ever on the side of the finger. I thought it was going to explode with the swelling.

I only hope that the goats in China are kept organically

Most probably are, out in those natural grasslands stocking rates are very low, no fertiliser used and very little parasite problems because of very low stocking rate
