Hi all, I'm Graeme. I'm from west Lothian and completely new to all this. I've managed to source a couple of hives complete with bees which I'll be receiving at the start of next year. I just can't wait to get started. I've joined my local beekeeping association and will take a few classes. So I'll be on here looking for as much help as I can get.

1) Read ALL the stickies and order some good books (search for strings in the search function, but Ted Hooper is great and there are some links below*).

2) Read them again.

3) Read them again and then start asking questions. You'll find lots of (conflicting) advice.

4) Read your books.

5) Read your books again.

6) Ask more questions.

7) Keep rereading the books.

8) By the time your class starts, you will think you have an idea of this beekeeping lark, but the bees will soon disabuse you of that confidence.

9) Go back to 1) and start again.

Welcome Graeme,
good place to start, both your association and here.
Lots to learn and apply.
Plenty of patience required and very rewarding at times.

Enjoy it, I do and wish I had done it years ago

all the best

Hi, never be afraid to ask, however stupid you may think it sounds, but please.....ask before you do it, not afterwards! Helps us all that way.
Welcome.

Welcome to the forum, Graeme :)
Keep reading the books.
...did anyone mention that...

:biggrinjester:

Sorry, Graeme, I meant to say hello as well. But I cannot emphasise enough just how important reading is.

Welcome Graeme

I am a newbee and still feel rather clueless at the best of times. I would also add that if possible try find a mentor to help inspect your hives, mine has been invaluable. No doubt you'll manage without but it does make it all 'easier'.
Enjoy!

I'm new as well this forum is great - just enlist the help of as many people as possible and of course you'll soon realise that you'll end up with many different views to each and every question as you could hope to get :)

Welcome Graeme. It's a great site, full to overflowing with helpful people, they won't laugh at you ( well, not much). Enjoy it, it's a great hobby/job/passion/frustration.
