Sounds like you have a Maisies extractor with built in filter/settling tank

It's a SAF one - I don't know if that's what Maisies are selling.

Thanks for all the comments all very helpfull .Its looking like i may go for the maismore at least they are on the other end of the phone if owt goes wrong.The electric ones look very good but expensive for m my budget.Anyway if my bees keep swarming like they are doing i wont need an extractor this year.

I bought a 6 frame radial SAF a couple of years back and never regretted it. Well made and a good price. Motorising it at the moment and I'll have a £600 extractor for half the price.

Tip: If you buy a 6 framer you can spin 2,3, 4 or 6 frames at a time because they will balance out. Very useful when you have only a few frames left to spin. With a 5 or 10 framer your options are a lot more limited (duodecimal system wins OK?)

Extracting can be fun for about five minutes, I would always suggest getting the biggest you think practical and electric if you can. There’s some very good priced 1s around atm.

I second that. I was using a 6 frame manual one for several years. After hours and days of extracting and the aching arms.. ive now got a konigin 20 frame electric. Now I get nearly dry frames by just pressing a button and letting it run for 10mins

I would second what others have said about getting a Radial, have help a friend out with a small hand driven tangential, any more than a few hives it becomes a chore (why i was asked to help!)
I bought a second hand Giordan 8 frame Radial and it came with the drill on it. the drill was a bit naff to be honest.
I have swapped the drill for a running machine motor second hand on ebay,
DC motors are much better at variable speed running.

£7 for motor control unit, £6 for enclosure, £22 for new belt & pullys (changed ratio a bit) and £1 for the treadmill so £36 all in.
And have used the choke from the running machine so keeps a nice constant speed.

Extractor running

It will do 3 or 4 supers in less than an hour.
the other advantage is, it comes with slot in cages that will take 14 x 12.

Well it says 2/3/4 frames so maybe it takes 2 deep frames or 4 shallow

Thanks Dani,i should have mentioned i had already read that bit but im confused .Ive been all through the search option on here and elsewhere and i see that a lot of extractors will also take extra frames with a bit of adapting ,Just thought maybee someone on here had the same dilema.

A lot of extractors come with screens to take larger frames. My eight frame radial that I had took eight super frames but had two screens that clipped in to take two deep or two 14x12 frames tangentially. That’s how it works.
