@ Millet.

Please could you tell me how do you extract from frames made to fit a standard brood box?

I extracted from Langstroth brood size frames this year. As Milly said, you just need an extractor they fit in.

A question worth asking is what design hive would you choose if you could start again?

I was thinking this just this week.

My (current) answer would be 8 frame langstroth one size box.

Indeed... the devils own invention and an abomination.

I had one once. I got well rid. The frame dimensions are awful. Very unstable compared to standard deeps or the 16x10 commercial. It is a shame the commercial hives weren’t accepted more common place than the 14x10. They are far superior. I much prefer standard national throughout now though

Not quite on topic but...

Well I’m going to be experimenting with some (purchased on a whim in the sales) Langstroth ‘jumbo’ frames this coming year (if I ever unpack them!).

I think the comb face is something like
17 9/16” by 11 1/4”

Planned for a yet to be built long hive.

I’m interested and keen to see what queen and colony do with as big an unbroken expanse of comb I can give them.
