Hi. I have a nucleus of 5 frames on a national setup but my broodbox is a Langstroth. Can anyone advise how I can transfer the colony?

Cut a board to fit the Langstroth with a hole in the middle, a biggish one to let the bees up. When the queen is laying in the Lang, cover the hole with an excluder and three weeks later your nuc will be free of brood and the nest will be above.

Very simple and it works for near any change over.

another way Just attach the national frames to the bottom of a bare lang top bar, the national fits just nice ( cable ties )
put in the lang brood box with a couple of frames and dummy boards, once they have drawn out the additional 5 lang frames you can start working the national frames to the outsides then eventually out being replaced with lang.

they will make brace comb in the gap between the wall and national side frames but just leave it as they will only build it back.
got one to do this week !

Ok ive said it now im in for it

Yup that works too but leaves a bit of a kerfuffle to get sorted out. The board way avoids that.

Wait until you see preparations for swarming and shake them into the new box?

I have Langstroth mediums. Any Nucs bought-in are invariably on national frames. I cut out the combs to the size of a Lang frame and hold in place with rubber bands. The bees attach the combs to the frames within a few days and cut the rubber bands off in a couple of weeks...usually found on alighting pad!

Did try the Board method the first time...it worked....but it took a long time to finally get to a fully langstroth colony.
