Does anybody - OK, it seems there are lots - that believe a simple census, like the above, will be evidence for being given a chunk of funding from the beaurocrats? Get real,

Maybe it's you that should get real in this instance. it's not just the data taken from our apiary figures - the figures supplied by SBI's from inspections during the summer will give a good baseline to work from, it will always be accepted that there will be some fudging but that's usually factored into any calculation. It's not me that's saying this particularly but SWMBO was responsible for handling Wales's chunk of the EU Apiculture funding programme money at one time so I think she has a better handle of that than most on here - I would ask her now but she's in London at the moment as she has a meeting in Westminster tomorrow to deal with the closure detail of all the last year's EC funding programmes for Wales.

Just one of many 'off roaders' often seen, along with that awful american ...vehicle?

The new jeep you mean - yes, at least the old one was a passable ruggedised estate car although it did struggle a bit driving upstream when the water got up further than the headlamps.
But what about these horrible lumpish things that people now buy made by Nissan - the qumquat or whatever it's called?

:nono: You mean the Crossover fad.... more like a rollover!
Will stick with my old Vitara for now!

If you have nothing to hide there should not be a problem. the NBU do a lot of good work keeping fowl brood counts low and training new beekeepers disease recognition. Why not ask the bees what they think, i'm sure they will be happy with the occasional free medical check up. l have heard some horror stories how some bees are kept.

Ho stop taking the p!z out of my Freelander, :nono: it does me just fine, independent front and rear suspension, constant mesh 4x4, traction control, hill decent control, BMW engine, air con, low back for easy access for beehive, electric rear drop screen to to allow escaped bees out and built in GB. It's an original 4x4 and none of that jap crap copy cat engineering. :D

Shame they don't bring back dog registration as well. It will help with all the F****** dog **** that is still over the pavement and paths and parks from the middle class peoples dogs that don't think there little pooch can cause anyone any problems. Or bag it up and hang it on a tree or fence which is just disgusting, you wouldn't hang a babys filled nappy bag like that so why do it with dog ****!!!!:nono:

These are the same middle class people that think natural beekeeping is the right way to keep bees.

sorry rant over. I think my morphine is wearing off.

Oddly... the people that I see not picking up their Dog **** seem to be the exact opposite end of the social spectrum ... the ones with bloody great rottweilers kept in council blocks of flats that just let them out on the communal patches of green to do their business and the ones with Pitt Bull look-alikes on heavy chains with studded collars and harnesses that must be fed on a diet of far more than they can digest judging by what they leave behind ... I've remonstrated with a couple of them .. answer - "WTF has it got to do with you ?".

The middle class people I see are always the ones with pooper scoopers and carrier bags ...

We have litter wardens in Fareham that fine people on the spot when they see dog's being allowed to foul the streets ... strange, they only seem to fine the little old ladies with Yorkshire Terriers - funny that isn't it ? Touch of Offenbach there .. "We're Public Guardians bold yet wary .. "

Free advice how to manage that.

Make a fatty bouillon. Pour it onto the sausage, and next doc will eate it.

Thank you, Alldigging for the reply to my thread.
The link you gave was handy to find out the number of hives and the funding allocated in each member state.

It was interesting to see that over a third of the EU hives are in 3 countries, ES (Spain ?), RO (Romania ?) and FR (France ?). I wonder what systems are used to record hive numbers in these states ?

I often see photos of non-UK apiaries with multiple one box hives. I can't imagine there being a registration fee for each hive.

:iagree:

I am beginning to panic now as I seem to be in agreement with JBM more and more often

I miss my Freelander. Got a Honda CRV now. Lovely ride and good roomy vehicle.
Got stuck in a field on Sunday. Snow and wet ground had to take a run at a small rise. Never would have happened with the Freelander.
The Honda would not pull a dog off a bitch on heat!!!

The streets of Derby are paved with ***** also. It seems a more general problem to me rather than being specific to someones class. There are plenty of chavs with 'staffies' responsible. I don't understand why they leave bags of dog mess lying around either. Not only have they left the mess behind, they have preserved it!

You've reminded me of having to pull a freelander out of a muddy field with my discovery :)

reminds me of pulling one out of a slightly wet field with my old Cherokee

It was after a funeral and for some reason they'd decided to park on grass on the lower part of the cemetery instead of staying on the lane behind the cortege. I ambled over and asked 'are you in low ratio? to be met by a blank stare - when I indicated the second gear lever it was like watching the Harry Enfield characters - the double take brothers.
Fortunately I always carry the tow ropes under the back seat and my cousin Rhys is the gravedigger so was in working clothes to attach it!

When we had the V8 lightweight landy we had a fun afternoon pulling an assortment of Range rovers, Discos, caravans, landcruisers, vans out of a very soft field who had come to watch a car trial. The secret was a very long rope so we could stand the landy on hard ground.
