Just a quick question about moving a swarm should I get one in one of my bait hives:

I wondered whether it could be moved straight from its site (about 50m from my apiary, so possibly not far enough away for my own swarms, although previous thread suggested that doesn't always apply) to my apiary in one move on the basis that a new swarm captured and hived does not seem to mind too much (and ignoring the need to quarantine and that sometimes they can abscond anyway!). Presumably doing it within 24h of it moving in and perhaps obstructing the entrance to force re-orientation may help.

Or do I need to keep to accepted wisdom which is to move away 3 miles for a week (not that easy, either) and then back or move just 1m per day (and as it's on the shed roof and over a hedge and a 2m-high fence away, that could be quite an undertaking!).

All advice welcomed!

Move it within 3 days of capture and it will be fine.
They lose their navigation sense until they have settled.

Great -- many thanks for that, that feels manageable!
