Could a newly mated queen enter the hive if a mouse / frelon guard is fitted?

Could a newly mated queen enter the hive if a mouse / frelon guard is fitted?

The queen usually performs orientation flights before going on her mating flight so she should know where she came from. I am not sure what style of hornet trap you are using though.

It is just a metal strip that covers the entrance of the hive, I wondered if the gap would be too small for the queen to get under

Don't worry, the queen can easily fit through the punched metal strips
