you can't be accused of premeditation, because you keep the bat & ball for recreation and it was just the nearest thing to grab for protection.
I keep quite a few shotguns and a couple of rifles and ammunition for recreation as it happens - I keep them near the bed as it's the only way to ensure that noone accidentally plays with them. One of them is usually the nearest to hand when I'm awoken by strange noises in the night. (cured SWMBO's nocturnal farting if nothing else )

Unexpected update!

I've just heard that our hives have been recovered! New Forest BKA were told of our loss, and one of their members reported seeing 4 new hives in the area. Police were informed, our association were contacted, and the hives identified as ours! They are now back in our possession.

Result!

Fanatstic ... but did they also get the person(s) who nicked them ???

First recovery story I've heard, but as above.. was the perpetrator found?

It would be so nice if the criminals were bought to justice

Great news, Skyhook - will be interesting to see if they find those responsible for the theft

FANTASTIC NEWS. Just the hives recovered or bees as well? How were they trying to sell them?

Good news indeed.

Like others I look forward to hearing more detail - including how the hives were positively identified (and Plod satisfied) that they were actually yours.

Possibly by having excessive[1] numbers of photos of the hives.

[1] Clearly not too excessive as taking photos of hives is part of security now.

I don't know if they got the toerag- I'm waiting for more info. They weren't offered for sale, I believe they were seen to have appeared in the corner of a field.

As for identification, they were (fortunately) from a small producer with his own little design details.

I will repost when I get more info, eg if there is to be a public flogging. ;D

Good news. Hope all was recovered intact.

It does show why it's worth marking your kit. It's harder to identify something as unique if it's from one of the larger suppliers, but even harder for a thief to explain why your phone number is written inside the boxes.

Nice to hear Skyhook, I feel sorry for the bees as well, Let us know how its gone. Regards
Richard

Hives all home and, I believe, none the worse.

Sadly, it appears no arrests are forthcoming, but you can't have everything.

.

Pleased to hear the hives and bees were recovered. It's a good result, but a pity the thieves weren't also caught, it means they might try again somewhere else.

They are probably following this thread.

Just posting such info on a forum such as this will warn the culprits and prevent them getting caught :(

Don't mind them knowing I have an agressive dog wandering free in the apiary occasionally and I sleep with a loaded shotgun within handy reach
