Beefriendly is right ... but we've ended up with a less good product which is a missed opportunity.

Cr.API-Bioxal works out cheaper than all other Varroa treatments (that are VMD approved). That's a good thing, perhaps the only good thing.

Using an iPad with fat fingers, apologies for the typos.

So far! Just wait until the complaints settle down and watch the price escalate.
A cynic? Moi?

It's a tricky one Parglyel....it was technically illegal to use Oxalic acid until it became legal. So credit is due for legalizing it, regardless of where the help came from. Credit is not due to cutting it with glucose and silica and saying it is suitable for vaporization without warning it will gum up your vaporizer.

Well .. I can see the logic ... but ... no commercial organisation is going to go to the expense of getting basic OA licenced as it will mean that all those 'cheap' deals for wood cleaner on ebay immediately become legitimate hive cleaners. So .. the only hope is that the BBKA cough up and get the stuff licenced for us to use ... if they chucked another 10p on the subs next year it should pay for them to do it ... they don't seem to worry about suggesting another pound to cover the incompetence losses ?

If I win Euromillions next week I'll pay for it !! (and then corner the market in generic OA !!! )

There are some mistakes on here that should be corrected. In the absence of a licensed medicine you can legally use another medication licensed in the same species for a different condition,
If that does not apply a product licensed for a similar or same use in a different species,
Failing that a drug that you have strong support or belief will treat help or ameliorate symptoms.

Before the VMD got interested in bees to treat them like cows, you could use anything you liked with statistical support to treat bees but now there are licenses you have to follow "The Cascade" which is what this process is called.

You will notice that homeopathy falls into the last category so can be used in all species but only after licensed medication fails.

Interesting!
Can you give us the source of your opinion expressed in the first para?

It's not my opinion. Look up "The Veterinary Cascade for drug treatment" on google I am sure you will find it. NOAH compendium will also have it in writing.
If no licensed drug to treat your livestock exists you can treat as you see fit under advice (which once licensing exists would need vet or a bee inspector or similar) as long as you do not cause undue suffering. If the licences treatment fails you can move onto the next step in the cascade.
The problem is there is not a whole lot on bees in Veterinary syllabuses in the uk but I know a vet who despaired in the amount he had to learn on the subject for his Hungarian Vet School degree.
As an owner of livestock you can do more in medical treatment for your food producing animals than a member of the public can legally do for their pet dog due to the prescriptive nature of drug Licencing and due to Veterinary care being a protected profession.
