I currently use a mixture of supers, some with Hoffmanns on rails, but most with SN1's in 10 slot castellations which I find gives nice fat combs

I've been offered (not free) some supers with drawn Manleys - any opinions on their advantages/disadvantages over SN1's ?

None either way, I've tried them, don't like them. Can be a right b*gger getting the first one out when extracting.
I hope you know the provenance of that drawn comb, otherwise touching with barge poles comes to mind.

I use nothing but manleys in supers, I no some don't like them for the reasons mentioned. But drawn comb is valuable in any frame size.

Runners or castellations?

:iagree:
I wouldn't take drawn comb from any other beekeeper.

I doubt I'd take used frames of any description from any other beekeeper either, with or without comb, no matter how clean they might look. Seconds are cheap enough, and you know they're completely clean.

I've tried Manleys on their own but they're a nuisance to get out of the super and my bees don't draw them to the width they should, so uncapping is a pain. The only way I've got them to work is alternating Manleys with Hoffman.

Manley frames just give the bees a bigger surface are to glue together which consequently makes them difficult to remove although it does just come down to personal preference.

I have only ever used Manley frames for my supers, I like them, not found that much of a problem with bees gluing them together, but then I haven't got anything to compare to.
I suppose the comb could carry some disease in with it if coming from another their apiary?
