There is also the temperature to consider. Some seem to have forgotten the problems of getting queens mated in May, only last year. That was in the far south of the Isles, too.
 
i wondered what the anyones opinion is on the best and quickest way of making increase. I've now 9 hives on 2 apiaries. Most of these are splits of some sort. Ive got the rearing kit kit but no actual queens on the go yet. I had some success with this last year with a couple of mating nuclei but i may buy some in as well.
I would like to get to about 20 hives possibly more over the next few year

Thoughts?

That was the question, not can I rear queens at this time of the year! Lol
 
anyone have any thoughts on using the "brovardi" system to stock late nucs. that is to say utilising the (subjectively) somewhat superfluous foragers in supers at the end of the main flow to populate the nucs.

personally i have doubts as to the sense - not the right mix of bees and the more foraging the better to help build up winter stocks.
 
Frankly never heard of it and no I wouldn't go that route.
