If you live in the Yorkshire area you might be interested in the Leeds bee keeping 2011 courses that are held in the Leeds area.

Once you have done the course you are then a member of Leeds bee keepers for that year and you will get support post course (which includes insurance though BBKA)
LBKA provide full protective equipment
You will get to handle bees
There is theory as well as practical experience
There is access to many different types of hives including national, wbc and top bar which are all occupied with colonies so you get a more complete experience of bee keeping
Members have an whole array of bee keeping qualifications and practical experience to offer advice and hands on support
You will also have access to discounted bee keeping supplies through the association shop but this is entirely optional whether you chose to use this facility
