Hi folks,
Is there anybody out there that can suggest a reliable (cheap) petrol driven scarifier.

Our electric one went up in flames when the motor cooling fan sucked in dry grass and then ignited it. It was a Mountfield with a serious design flaw.

We are creating wildflower patches in a paddock and we mow and collect the existing grass then glyphosate followed by a good scarifying.

We could get a scarifier attachment for our 2 wheel tractor but at just over £2000 it's a bit expensive.

Any input would be welcome.

Tim

Hire one in it will work out cheaper for the amount of use it will get

We've looked into hireing but need to give at least 3 days notice as there are none resident in Oke and if the weather turns you've paid your hire fee but can't use the machine.
The only firm in Oke. that will quote are asking £45 per day+ del. We currently do our lawns twice a year so it won't take long to make it cheaper to buy.

HSS about 20 miles from you £67+VAT for the weekend

Jewson even cheaper at £52 inc vat for the weekend.

Jewson in Oke don't hire tools the nearest that does is in Crediton.
HSS at 40 miles round trip = 1 gall of diesel at £4.50 + 1 hours time travelling twice to collect and return doesn't make economic sense.

We have a rake but as the lawns are 1200 sq.mts are you offering?

Tim

Well that would depend on the price lol I think the fuel bill would kill it though

Possibly without VEG lol.

I used to work for a lawncare company and we always used Dori scarifiers, which you can get for around £400. Not sure if you'd consider that cheap though :D

Thanks Snapper for the info.
£400 seems about the going rate at present.
