Late Queen Rearing

Is it too late to put a frame of eggs/larvae into a queenless colony with a view to rearing a few Qs?
Would there still be drones about?

Lots of drones still here.
I have had queens mated September in good weather.

Yes, but decreasing during the month. There will also be wasps about...
