Some hives and a few nucs
A snail been seen off by the girls

Were they trying to see it off? Often I see those carnivorous leopard slugs in the hives. Even in big colonies. I wonder if they are happily co-existing - keeping a greedy cleaner in the hives who clears up dead bees.

Sorry, it is not a happy coexistence.
I've had a mating hive wiped out by hordes of slugs. In future, I'll only site mini-hives where I am permitted to use anti-slug treatments. A 'wild' and totally chemical-free garden turns out to be not ideal!
And just yesterday I removed a slug-shaped turd of propolis from the mesh floor inside a nice strong hive...
No way are they an asset!

I watched a dog fox cross the field yesterday evening, it went up to 2 poly nucs i had at the back ebd of the field. I could see it was doing something to the nuc's but not exactly sure what. After about 5 mins, it cocked its leg and the rest is history lol

anyone ever had a problem with foxes and their hives?

Perhaps consider encouraging some toads to come and take up residence in your garden - dig a small pond? I find that even a washing up bowl will suffice!

Just put some sand around the mating hives slugs/snails wont cross it.

It was in Tanzania, on west Kilimanjaro. I think my butterfly net saved me as the lion was wary of it, having not seen one before. I was more worried about mum turning up than anything else.
