Why does my laptop make a strange juddering noise and freeze when watching a video, eg on youtube?

Maybe it's not buffering quickly enough. Is it a good wifi signal?

Is it videos only in the browser client?

Try clearing your internet cache, and make sure your drivers are up to date.

American components,Russian components, all made in Taiwan...perhaps try the Russian way to fix the problem.......

HM, I banged the lid down in frustration after the laptop froze half-way through the fat beemans video, and now the fan makes a funny noise! So better not do a proper Russian fix.

Thanks for the info., I've cleared the cache, and will re-install flash if the problem persists.

The laptop froze or the video froze? There's a long list of what could be wrong but without detail it's no more than random guesses. If the whole laptop "freezes" and you cannot run local programs like document editing it's a very different problem to a video pausing because your wifi signal is poor.

Sorry, I don't have the tech.language. I was watching the youtube clip on queen-rearing when my laptop started making a juddering noise and at the same time the video froze AND everything else, the only way to use the laptop again was to turn it off, then on again. The cursor was frozen, couldn't use the keyboard, not even to ctr/alt/del. This only happens when I'm watching clips from the internet, that I'm aware of, there may be a problem if I inserted a disc.

One possibility is that your hard disk is very low on space, the juddering could be trying to clear enough space for the temporary video files. Everything else stops while the files are rearranged. You might need to find someone who can work out what older stuff is safe to delete.
