While out with the dogs, I spotted this. Following, I suspect, flood damage, a local keeper has left frames exposed in a plastic bin and on top of a hive.....🤯:hairpull::hairpull::hairpull: 0D591E67-9635-4035-8EFA-D35DD268CD08.jpegFFC79BA5-4EE4-4723-AB18-76755E26FF9A.jpeg

I wonder how many irresponsible beekeepers who open feed there are? I would not be happy finding that, how close is this to your bees?

About half a mile.
As the hive is a Zest and the theory that varroa don’t thrive in Zest hives because of the high humidity levels, I fear these bees are not treated. So I’ll vape mine again to see if they’ve been to the “open air party“ and picked up some hitchhikers

Good idea to vape a month after your autumn treatment anyway. I did all mine and found too many varroa in one colony which is just having another round.

Open feeding likely goes on far more then we ever know, either lazy or those who just don't think will do so. There will be a bunch of thicko's who will think that it is only their bees who will find it.

I am currently cleaning up my summer stuff, I do it out side in the open but wait mostly for the weather type to do this work. Try it on a sunny or good flying day and my process will attract 1000's of bees with wasps and bumbles in the mix.

Worrying. Do you know who it is to have a word?

The guy that put a letter in the marshwood Vale free paper knocking people for reducing the gene pool by selectively breeding queens?
Sounds like he's the one that's lacking a few DNA strands!!

I don’t know - what issue / month?

From the Zest Hive website

so he appears to actively encourage open feeding. The letter to the Blackmoor Vale paper blaming commercial beekeepers for the demise of healthy swarms is worth a read if only as an example of the conclusions people to jump to without an understanding of the issues involved

I do not know the chap, but he is clearly experienced (46 years beekeeping). So enlighten us. What should we all understand about the issues involved?

Slight confusion on my part..... It was actually the Blackmoor Vale paper!!

July 9th 2021.
That letter was from Bill Summers, who created the Zest hive, I believe.
Not my local pesky varmint.

have you read his rant? Anyone who appears to promote open feeding and feels the need to state they have been keeping bees for 46 years in a letter to a local magazine should be treated with immediate suspicion. Not all experience is equal.
His whole premise is filled with inaccuracies to back up a specific point of view that blames commercial beekeepers and bee breeders for queen issues without any evidence to back this up

Yes I read his "rant". I'm asking you to explain yours. What inaccuracies? What issues doesn't he understand?
