I have only had my beehive set up with nucleaus for a couple of weeks, when I looked at the inspection board today there were what looked like black, cylindrical objects, more than 10 which I have not seen before. it was almost like dead, mummified bees with no wings just hard black casing and what could have been the remnants of a stinger on a couple of then - can anyone tell me what they are please

This is the beginner section, so when a new member comes on board, obviously with little experience, methinks helpful answers would be the way forward.

To be honest with you Johnnie I think we are struggling to work out what they are, I for one have only ever seen mites, wax, cappings and the occasional ant and bee.
A picture paints a thousand words so if there is a photo available we might be able to help a bit more

Probably mummies of bees which died in the cells as a result of chalk brood infestation. Initially the mummies may be white but with time turn black.

Hi
thanks for the speedy replies everyone
don't think it can be mouse droppings as I have restricted enterance and these are on the inspection board at the back of the hive. nothing like this for over two weeks and then today lots of fat black shiny rounded cylinders I will try to photograph tomorrow and upload a picture. If they are dead bees then where are their wings? also chalk brood still looks like larvae this isn't the same shape

Have uploaded a pic sorry its not very clear but its the best I could do

I was going to suggest some kind of seed pod. Cut it in half for more info.

it does appear to have a tail bit to it but not all of them do, very similar to the stinger of a bee
I don't think it can be seeds or I would see others in the area and there are no plants nearby in any case that could produce a seed like this

It does not look like mummified bees (as in spiders) - which I have a lot of due to having loads of spiders. Looks rather like toad poo.

Well in all fairness the statement:
it was almost like dead, mummified bees and what could have been the remnants of a stinger on a couple of then
invited the reply, although a bit sarky of:
I'll take a wild stab and say Bees

it does appear to have a tail bit

Poo - heard the term 'pinching one off? if they weren't tapered their a*ses would shut with a bang!

I get to see lots of mouse poo in my job, and that does not look like it, mouse poo tends to be duller, grain of rice size and rounded at both ends, I'd second the idea of cutting/teasing one open to have a look inside.
this is getting like a science project at school, we need more piccies, lol
