I think the mounds have been flattened by my kids running around and squashing the mud back into the ground as I've seen no tell tale mounds around the holes, just holes. I read they have stings, but they aren't strong enough to penitrate the skin. I was more worried about the bees to be honest lol, the kids get into all kinds of scrapes, the odd sting doesn't bother them too much. On the other hand, I've seen these holes for years, so the boys thundering around mustent bother the bees too much lol
