Hi ... I have a budget of £300 can someone recommend a honey extractor for around that price ..... Many thanks on advance

How many hives are you thinking of having in the future? For £200 you could get a stainless steel 4 frame tangential extractor with money left over for filters and buckets and knife for taking the cappings off. Try A*m*z*n

radial best unless you have heather. even OSR is better on one unless its set then nothing works.

Which is best for extracting manleys and can you get one for unwired foundation?

Only tangential extractor for unwired foundation.

I had a similar starting budget (£300) but blew it and spent £400 on one of the Gio*d*n (Italian) radial 8-frame extractors powered by an electric drill. Seems strong and well-made. I only have 4 hives but I have to be honest and say that although I very much appreciated the exercise I got from a manual machine, a motor takes a lot of the sweat out of the process (and let's not even think if any of that went in the honey...) and speeds things up a fair amount (and I can have a cuppa while it's spinning).

I won't say if it's a good machine until I've tested it over the next 30 years or so -- I'll come back then and let you know:laughing-smiley-014. I agree with others, though, it's worth spending a little more to get something that will last and I'm always nervous buying high-cost items without first seeing them, so didn't buy this until I had given it the once over.

In the end, if you make a mistake and want to upgrade or pass it on, there's a very good demand for second-hand and they don't seem to lose their value much, judging by the occasional local auction or online sites.

The smallest radial that I have encountered is a 4-frame stainless thing made (I believe) by the Italian firm Lega. I think the cage is specially for National shallows (especially Manleys!).
I've seen one, but not used it. Legs are included.
The shop in Yalding, Kent is one source http://www.honey-bees-etc.co.uk/buyequipment_honeyextracting.html and scroll well down the page (ref 201a).

However, for the same money (a whisker over £300), you could have a bigger but 'lightweight plastic' 9-frame radial (or tangential if you really wanted) from Thorns. (But T's important metal stand isn't included in the basic price.) You could contemplate a later upgrade to a motor and adding large tangential screens to extract honey from brood frames.

This is the wrong time of the year to be hoping to find extractor bargains!
