Dont stereotype all Chinese goods as rubbish, after all the Apple factory is in China

trustpilot has lots of reviews for company, lots of problems with products, but people say they have great customer service and do lots of refunds.

Selling them [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stainless-Steel-Honey-Extractor-Frames/dp/B007X39LBQ"]on Amazon[/ame] too.

Looking at pictures following your comments, I can see how you came to your conclusions. Thanks guys:.) Not that it'll fit my frames anyway.

Well, the extractor arrived today... and will be returned for refund tomorrow!

The naysayers were correct. I wasn't expecting top kit at that price but the quality is truly shocking.

The various brackets on the outside have been spot-welded, which has damaged the inside, causing rust spots to appear already. The frame holder looks like stainless steel (finished poorly) but I'm not convinced that the drum is stainless. The lid certainly isn't IMO, it looks and feels like a biscuit tin lid.

There is a strong smell of oil / metal with bits of all sorts of swarf in the bottom - it would need a total dismantle and thorough cleaning if I were going to use it.

As someone noted - it will not take deep frames.

Pictures speak for themselves but it's difficult to take good ones. The quality of the painted handle is pretty much reproduced throughout.

So, crush and strain / cut comb for my first super taken off yesterday. I do have someone willing to lend me an extractor so will borrow that until I can justify paying four times as much for a decent one.

Here endeth the lesson.

Nick

Well done for taking the time to post these pictures.

No worries. I just noticed that the product description says:

"Bee outlet diameter 4cm, designed with high quality PP."

Do they think you put the bees in there and spin them to get the honey out of them? :willy_nilly:

We bought one of the polythene ones from e*bay at £130 - thinking that even if the mechanism wasn't so good it would last until we've got a bit more time to build our own! It only takes 2 frames, so probably not what the OP needs - but having extracted 6 frames quite easily the other evening - I would say it's a resonable bet for anyone with only a couple of hives if you don't want to be bothered having to wait to borrow one. When we had finished using it, easily washed out in the shower!

Have you thought of making your own, you can buy all the bits and pieces from th**NS

Update. Well, the goods may have been totally rubbish but I can't fault HomCom customer service. I called them and explained that I wouldn't spin my socks in that extractor and that the workmanship was dire. I also sent them the photos I posted earlier.

I told them that, as the goods were not 'as described', I would not be expecting to have to go to the post office and pay for the return, as stated in their returns policy - they offered me a 50% refund and keep the extractor or a full refund with a courier pickup... it will be going back on Monday! ;)

I’ve decided to buy a 9 frame Giordan extractor from Api-Novo. God reviews, good price and good customer service. It arrives on Wednesday. I’ll post some feedback next week.

I’m really pleased.

I received my 8 frame radial extractor from Agri-Nova yesterday. it took about 5 minites to set up and yesterday evening I extracted honey from a couple of supers, the extractor performed brilliantly. Despite being hand operated it was extremely efficient at extracting honey – I’m glad I didn’t choose to have a drill operated or motorised version. :)

I've just ordered one of these. I agree that a 9-frame motorised one would be ideal but they are SO expensive. This one looks great for £150, I've seen plastic 2-frame tabletop extractors for more than that on some of the 'specialist' suppliers websites.

I'll let you know how I get on :)

9-frame radial doesn't have to be motorised, there is a middle route.

I was looking at the £189 ****** honey extractors on Fleabay, but I guess you guys have just helped me dodge a bullet! Is it really that bad???

So, the recommendation appears to be Agri-Nova / Api-Novo?

Are we talking about this??

Any preference as to manual or drill operated? Oddly, the drill operated one is cheaper...

I truly cannot get my head around how much beekeeping costs and how little reward there is in it.

Beekeeping costs only as much as you make it, if one happens to be one of those magpie types, that just has to buy every shiny new piece of equipment they see, then it can cost you a fortune, but the rewards from beekeeping are priceless.
