Hi all

Made two 5 frame nucs the other day, simple box solid floor.

The question is how big should i make the entrance hole.

What do you all think.

This will be the only ventelation so I was thinking someware in the 20mm-35mm diameter range, will this be too big to deffend?

Slot - easy to cover to change size.

Multiple holes - easy to cover if required.

Large circular hole - no thanks.

Regards, RAB

30mm hole, but i also made one with a 9mm slot...and i prefer it

the slot is a short tunnel then up into base of box, the slider can be inserted either to block off or reduce the tunnel width

second picture shows the slider in to reduce entrance

Hi Musswell,

I love your idea of a slide entrance, I think its great, my entrance hole is 19mm. :drool5:

Hi all

In the end I went with two 22 mm holes and a nuc disk that I had anyway.I can also make use of my old Dadant roof's, see photos.

There a bit rough but they should do the job.

They are Lang medium size btw, as I'm now running all the same size.

Thanks for all the sugestions and help :coolgleamA:

Where did you get the sticker from on your bee hive if you dont mind me asking ?

Cork sized. I cut a hole in one of four horizontal positions and on one of (at the moment) two levels, so currently each of eight hives is unique and has it's own built in identity.
