Hello from Orkney

Hello to everyone.

I’m Lindsay and I live in Kirkwall on the Mainland of Orkney it’s our largest island. I’ve kept bees here for a number of years and I’m still learning. I occasionally post on the SBAI site. After a quick search of this site for Orkney beekeepers I have found that what’s going on here is a little bit more different than what’s been posted about previously. I intend to post about our current state of beekeeping shortly.

Finally I have been asked on behalf of Orkney’s beekeepers to state that we are still VARROA FREE. So PLEASE don’t bring or if approached send Bees or second hand equipment to our Islands as it would set back our way of beekeeping FOREVER!

Spent quite a bit of time In Kirkwall harbour over the years, alwaays liked taking a walk around the surrounding area when given the chance ashore.

It’s very challenging here especially for our more rural beekeepers. Nearly every year I’ll rant to my partner that I’ve had enough of beekeeping due to X, Y or Z and it’s time to pack it in, but I’m still here doing it.
