That sounds a really good hedge and will look marvellous when it is mature.
You might think to add some honeysuckle for the moths to that and maybe some Alder Buckthorn

Common Alder is a pain ,it self seeds at will. Every seed a sapling :(
Every cloud and all that :) , the goldfinches go mad for the tiny orange coloured seeds!

Thanks for the replies lots to choose from and quite a science involved creating a hedge, I like the idea of 210 trees for £60 from The Wood Land Trust that will offer a bit of diversity

Alder Buckthorn and Buckthorn are the sole foraging plants for the Brimstone butterfly.
Common Alder is a different species altogether. You do see bees on the catkins in the spring.

Thanks, your welcome to help me to lay it what ever that means?, don't you just plant them then chop the tops off when they reaches a desired hight

Should be doing a bit in the association apiary in a few months - come along and watch!

Ahhhh I love watching a man work on a hedge :)

You had to choose an English lay! I'm not up to that standard I'm afraid - West Carmarthenshire hedge for me, although the best hedge layers I'm told hailed from the Rhandir Mwyn area (so not too far away).

Wrong - the Scots get a chunk of our share as well - as for the extra cash, we need the extra money for our NHS to cope with all the retired English who come to Wales to die and to put teachers through college so they can move to England to educate them - a strong tradition from the last century

And I thought they and half the SE retire to Cornwall as they love it so much and then tell us we are all backward and try as hard as possible to change everything.

:nopity:Well, a glance at the London telephone book shows lots of Jones, Williams, Evans and even Jenkins. Presumably many of those ail and die in situ ℅ our NHS…...
