Does anyone have any ideas on building a honey extractor? Saw a picture in this forum of a beer keg on wooden legs. It looked like an extractor in work but did not say. Thanks

Milker Mel did some years ago. But I don't know if she still visits this forum.

I have. But it is not worth to build. They are quite cheap to buy. You should have better to do.

Hedgerow Pete has a video on making one. However, you should be using food grade plastics, stainless steel etc, so difficult. Join an association and borrow one

When I first started I used a mesh bag with broken foundation and honey in, I then put it in and old style stand alone spin dryer, I don't think you would find one any more, the honey used to come out where the water used to come out. I used to have to take it all to pieces to clean it. Worked for two years then I got fed up!

Not difficult to do if you have access to a tig welder or know's a good buddy that does.
The barrel was bought on ebay for £15 that was used to transport olives
The bearings are sealed for life stainless steel
The gears came off a large hand drill.
The expensive part was the stainless steel bar to make the basket.
In all it cost me £70 for a twelve frame extractor and still going strong

I expect a lot will come onto the market for sale when the Flow's hive arrives... another bit of redundant kit the old galvanised honey ripener makes an excellent umbrella stand!
