Why not petition the BBKA to go down the same route.

They could even sign a supplementary concordat to create jobs and boost the economy by opening a new factory utilising the forestry timber to make matchsticks

Commiserations on being from Yorkshire ... :)

Derek ( originally from the manor of the Stanleys, victors of Bosworth field )

Whilst my immediate ancestors and I are proud Yorkshiremen we are rather a mongrel lot ... originally descending South from Scotland with the Young Pretender in the '45 - the Argyles were amongst Bonnie Prince Charlie's most loyal followers; we got as far as Derby and then the rest of the miserable shower decided they had had enough (just when we were in danger of winning !) and retreated back up North - but - the Argyles rather liked the soft underbelly of England they found in Derbyshire and eventually settled in Heage, near Belper, where they set up a fairly successful and well documented business of highway robbery on the Belper/Derby Turnpike which actually passed quite close to Heage Hall where the Argyle ancestors lived for a fair old time.

Sadly, my branch of the family have always been the youngest sons so never got the inheritance and after following the growth of the canals as bricklayers building bridges and locks we ended up in the employ of the STANLEY family in Liverpool ... working as bricklayers building houses as Liverpool expanded. We lived in Stanley Road, Toxteth and opened a butchers shop which prospered to the point where we are able to buy a farm, Cherry Tree Farm, on the Wirral at Willaston. Again, my branch ended up as the youngest son and my Grandfather eventually ended up in Yorkshire (via Swadlincote in Derbyshire) getting a job as a Council midden emptier ! Working overnight with a horse and cart shovelling the contents out of the earth and ash closets that were the predecessors of modern plumbing.

So about 50 years later I came along and have spent most of my life involved in shovelling sh*t and highway robbery of a different type ! Funny how history has a way of repeating itself !!

I consider myself as European, Grandfathers names where Higgins and Shaw and Grandmothers names Llewellyn and Vye, Two of them where English, one was Welsh and one French, however I was born in Wales which makes me Welsh and that is my identity and proud of it

I am of Scottish heritage. One of my long ago ancestors - on my father's side - was hung for reiving (cattle stealing) in the Borders... I was brought up in Scotland. and then emigrated to civilisation :sunning:

I am equally appalled at the current few (I Hope !!) Scots who are seeking to break up our great nation. Devolution is one thing I can accept ... separatism is something else altogether.

Personally, I shall be sorry if the Scots vote to leave the UK, but if I were one of them, I'd be voting to go.

Well done NRW!(national resources Wales ie. forestry comm.)
Wouldn,t it be a great thing to be able to put hives in the forest? Either for the wild flowers, honeydew or access to the heather?
I think that there's a change going on over the years to recognise the assets that are in our forests.(They are "our" forests after all).
There's picnic sites and forest walks and recently the commision has built fantastic mountain bike trails. All to encourage us public to use the resource which is our forests.
Also on the tree side of things I know that there is a lot going on to up the quality of the timber and to use it's potential better.
This is being done by good people who see what we have and want to make the best of it.
I don't think they give a flying wellie where you come from genetically or physically!
What a good start to a thread and what a bad direction it took.
Positive things come from positive people.

:iagree:

The best thing WG did was scrap the forestry comission - hasn't been fit for purpose for decades. NRW is in its infancy and is bound to have teething problems, but hopefully it will turn out to be a great organisation. Know quite a few people working there especially in fisheries and environment, and apart from the odd turnip they're a good bunch
