If you're willing to come and get them, in Gloucestershire, with your own Langstroth hive, I have a full colony you can have for nothing.

Read my blog on here to understand where we're at. We now have three strong colonies and we only want two.

This is the first colony we had (although the queen and bees have changed a few times!) and when checked yesterday the broodbox was chocker with bees.

We were helped massively by GWW when we started, so it seems right to hand on some bees to a beginner who's desperate to get going in this amazing hobby.

As there is AFB in your area I would contact your bee inspector to get the ok from them.

. . . on hold for a couple of weeks

Sorry, beginners, this will have to wait for a couple of weeks.

Some colonies in my region have been found to have American Foul Brood, which is a nasty and contagious colony disease. They were taken to a beekeeping auction and equipment sale, so now other colonies might have got it if they were taken there, too, or are kept close to those that were.

I never take my bees or equipment anywhere, so my colonies are probably OK, but who knows what the bees get up to when they're foraging?

I've been getting calls from the bee inspector, but was busy at work and haven't got back to her yet. I'll ask her to come and MOT my colonies and, if they are all OK, this colony will be free to go to a new home in a few weeks or so.

Sorry to get your hopes up if (like I was) you are desperate to get started :)
