Hi All,

I started beekeeping this Spring and this is the first time that I prepare the hive to overwinter. It is going to have a full super with honey and I plan to leave 10 litres of syrup. Would it be alright?

Best wishes from Norhern Ireland.

Pablo.

A full super on top of what they have in the brood will be more than enough. In my area they over winter very well on just the stores they have in the brood box.

What hive? A brood and a super could be excessive.

You feed sugar syrup as autumn feed, not as a winter feed.

:iagree:
A super as well is not needed, just have some bakers fondant handy for later in the winter if they are running low. You don't want to waste money by giving them too much and also it will mix with your spring honey, getting it just right is an art but a bb is usually just enough.....usually!!!
