weeeell - as it's a tangential it doesn't really matter whether the top bars are facing outwards from the middle, both against each other in the middle or one with the bottom bars facing out and the other on the same side with the top bar facing out. The important thing is to imagine how you could fit a brood frame in that cage (there is only one way) and put two shallows in the same space, doesn't matter where the top bars are

OK - nearly there - it is definitely a two frame extractor (although it may fit broods as well as shallows)the lowest frame in the picture is now in the right place - put the second diagonally opposite on the other side

I am sure someone will help now the photo is there. I have never used one like that so I am afraid I dare not comment in case I totally confuse things. Gut reaction? Turn the frame through 90 degrees so the flat side is where the top bar is now and put another frames diagonally opposite. But as i say i could be very wrong! Good luck

Alas, still in the same situation! I can get about a third of the honey out but the rest remains gelatinous in the frames.

No. I'm in Herts so if it's honey that can't be extracted I suspect it's going to be Raspberry. As its my first time I don't have a level to know what it should extract like. I'm going to try and watch someone else do it before next time.

Is there a method for osr or heather etc?

I've had a very dark honey that is very thick and slow to spin out. Some locals have said hawthorn to me - is that dark folks and quite thick?

Its a light to medium caramel really.

My honey last year refused to spin out of the frames and it was the same for several others in the area. It was a fairly dark early season honey so possibly hawthorn in it but it wasn't crystallised and there is no heather nearby. I eventually got a reasonable percentage of it out by warming the frames a bit (tricky not to warm too much - did that, very messy) and a huge amount of effort on the extractor. I suspected that an electric radial would have done the trick but I didn't have access to one. It may be that the small 2 frame extractor isn't man enough for this job.

Thank you. I tried again today for quite some time. I could only get so much out, the rest remained jam like on the frames. I resorted to scrapping back the combs to foundation sadly. Then crush and strain.

If i only had a small amount i would have tried warming the frames up before extraction, maybe something to think about next time even if you only try it on two frames to see if it works.

haha i don't think so, a bonfire would be more helpful or a barbecue .

I have not got to the wax melting stage but look up what degree C wax melts at and keep it well below that, maybe 35 C so the wax still stays in place while spinning, that is what i would try anyway, you have nothing too loose if you are crushing and straining anyway apart from a messy extractor.

I think (and i say THINK) wax melts around 63 C , so you should be ok warming below half that, let me know how you get on as i will be doing the same or similar at some point.
