We already have a fruit press but it's probably a bad idea...thinking of the mess left behind. Maybe I could just throw the straining bag away when I've finished?

You’re probably right.
Looking at the bucket there is a layer of around an inch of honey at the bottom so I can re warm that but when I get down there this winter.
