This morning I have just found a drone on the alighting board with all his male parts sticking out. He was warm and his legs were moving. Please can you tell me why this should happen. Dispatched the poor guy quickly.

Maybe another critter ate him? I found some bees a few weeks ago, still moving, with most of their abdomens eaten through. Wasps no doubt, there were a number harrassing the entrances then, gone now.

No not eaten Will post pic later. Missing head now but that was me.

Hornets maybe, iirc adult wasps are not carnivorous but their young are fed on grubs, producing a sugary substance that the adults eat.

Might be mistaken but didn't Karol say wasps will kill bees to get at the contents of their abdomens? Could have been hornets, saw some earlier in the year.

Drones can get excited for a number of reasons and when in this state they can evert quite readily from minimal contact.
I'm the same, luckily after ejaculation I dont go into paralysis and die each time.

Ummm.

Drone. January.

Makes me wonder.

(Never mind what he'd been getting up to.)
