I've a super whose foundation hasn't been drawn out. Is it likely that if I put it on now it will be drawn out this year, or am I putting too much drain on the ladies resources?

Red - it depends. You say it's a healthy hive. If it's overflowing with bees in the existing boxes, lots of laying etc., then perhaps give it a go.

I placed an empty super 2 weeks back on one of my hives (brood and half), gave a light feed and they drew out 7 of the 10 frames when I inspected yesterday. My intention was merely to give them a little more room and to get some drawn comb for use in the new year.

Not sure when you intend doing your Varroa treatment though? I start mine on this hive next week so this super will be off before then.

I think I might slip the super on and see how they get on. They're certainly showing no signs of slowing up - in fact they seem busier now than in early July when they arrived.

Red - sorry I edited my posting as you replied.

My hive is also busier now than 2 months back however you need to consider when you will do your Varroa treatment because that must come off before then.

Timing your varroa treatment is an important point , I believe Apiguard is 4 to 6 wks by the time you have used the second tray , you are well into november by then and it will probably be too cold to be effective. It needs to be 15 degrees .
I would treat asap and get them ready for Winter .

Sorry, but you are a month ahead of everybody else!
