This is a very interesting question.

I thought last year I had it sorted via the Agent for Lord Derby but then it fell apart with I think internal issues as one hand seemed not to know what the other was doing.

I then spent some days asking around for access to fields adjoining the managed moorlands but it is very far from straightforward as the obvious owner of field x does not by a long chalk live at the obvious farm house... very complex and after a while I got a bit sick of it to be honest.

I may try this year again but as we are hoping to move soon I am not so sure about bothering.

Odd you should raise such matters. We have heard there are problems on the Yorkshire moors and would be very interested to hear if anybody knows the whys and wherefores please.

In my experience it is not so odd for the gamies and the agents not to know who has agreed what with whom if you follow me, and trouble ensues.

A well known bee farmer in Scotland got caught out that way, he had his deal with the head gamekeeper but not the owner who was less than amused at 1000 colonies suddenly on his land.

Over the years finding farmers I have found to be a better bet. Not in Derbyshire though..lol

I would recommend contacting your local branch of the CLA and see if they can help you. They can ask for sites in their email newsletter.

I work in Buxton and a few years ago thought about taking my bees to the Moors around there. I was put in touch with the Game Keepers attached to Chatsworth, I think the Moor would be Beeley. You might contact the land office and see where that takes you.
